VAPEVAZE YOUR VOLCANO

Although we feel that the Storz & Bickel Volcano Vaporizer is the best way to vapourise  – inhaling through a plastic balloon and mouthpiece is less than ideal. That’s why we made the VapeVaze.

__________

So ... what exactly is a VapeVaze?

The VapeVaze combines two different types of vapourising delivery systems into one apparatus. The vase functions as a glass replacement for the Volcano Balloon and delivers tasty vapour through a whip.

Platinum-cured silicone tubing is used to safely move hot vapour from the Volcano Vaporizer into a portable glass storage device. This allows for the cooled and smoother vapour to be leisurely vaped through a healthy whip rather than from a plastic balloon. It also eliminates plastic bag noise.

So ... what's it made of?

The whip and blowhole tubing is made from platinum-cured silicone. The cork stopper is made from Portuguese cork, cut from one piece of bark. The mouthpiece is made from sustainably harvested Italian Briar wood. Our current batch of glass vases are made in China.

So ... why?

The main reasons are to produce smoother vapour and eliminate the need for a plastic bag.  We also liked the idea of capturing the hookah experience while using healthy and sustainable components.

So ... does it work with any Volcano?

The VapeVaze works with any Volcano that uses the Volcano EASY VALVE Filling chamber.

SO ... HOW DO I MAKE ONE?

If you're up for a bit of DIY, these are the components needed:

1. STOPPER - can be made from rubber, silicone, wood or cork.

Suggestion: Vase opening diameters come in all different sizes and shapes. Selecting a material that has a bit of give, will make things a lot easier to snugly fit in the vase opening and to drill. Smaller diameter stoppers are less expensive, but make sure to allow enough room to drill holes for the whip and blowhole hose. Generally, a diameter under 45mm gets difficult to work with. Be careful of using toxic materials, such as agglomerated cork, which contains glues.

Sourcing: non-toxic 100% raw cork can be sourced from Widget Co in smaller quantities and Jelinek for larger purchases.

2. WHIP HOSE - can be made from platinum or peroxide-cured silicone.

Suggestion: Platinum-cured silicone tubing is more expensive, but has a high melting point and is used in medical applications. If using plastic tubing, do extensive research on melting points and toxicity. If using metal tubing, be careful of lubricants used in the manufacturing process. Tubing with a 15.9mm ID (0.625") x 22.2mm OD (0.875") fits perfectly onto the neck of the Volcano EASY VALVE Filling chamber.

Sourcing: In North America, we have used Silicon Med-X 50A Platinum from NewAge Industries, which is made in the USA. In Europe we have used platinum-cured medical silicone tubing from LaboModerne, which is made in Spain. In Australia, we have used Jehbco medical grade platinum-cured silicone tubing.

3. BLOWHOLE TUBE - can be made from silicone, wood, metal or glass.

Suggestion: The diameter and placement is important. A hose with a 6.4mm ID x 9.5mm OD provides a good amount of airflow without too much resistance. Place the bottom of the tubing close to the bottom of the vase to ensure all volume is utilised.

Sourcing: good quality medical grade platinum-cured silicone tubing can be sourced from NewAge Industries, LaboModerne and Jehbico.

4. VASE - glass.

Suggestion: Be careful of older tinted and some recycled glass vases, which may contain lead. To closely match the Volcano balloon, select a vase that has a volume of approximately 8 litres.

Sourcing: this component is a bit more random to source. In North America, a good wholesale source is Couronne Co., while in Europe and Australia, we've had the most success in buying from retail vase outlets.

5. MOUTHPIECE - can be made of wood, glass, metal or plastic.

Suggestion: Be careful of toxic substances or materials with low melting points. If getting a custom wood mouthpiece made, request that fire retardant is not used. Make sure that the OD of the tubing fits snugly in the mouthpiece.

Sourcing: this has been the most difficult component to source, as it needs to be custom made. We purchase our mouthpieces solely from Mr. Brog.
